ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ has received a $1.25 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to help train the next generation of researchers in mind-brain science.
The grant will enable ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ to organize a two-week intensive training program known as the Summer Institute in Cognitive Neuroscience for the next five years. The program will be run in collaboration with UC Santa Barbara.
The summer institute will focus on translating fundamental discoveries into treating mental illness, said Ron Mangun, dean of the Division of Social Sciences at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ and director of the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Center for Mind and Brain. Mangun is principal investigator of the new grant and will be director of the summer institute.
The 2011 summer institute will be held at the UCSB campus. The institute may be held in the Lake Tahoe area in upcoming years.
