NIH-Funded Research Advancing Environmental Justice

Communities deserve to breathe clean air, drink safe water and live without fear of toxic exposure. At ҵ, Jonathan London leads NIH-funded research that builds collaborative partnerships between scientists with communities facing environmental hazards — like polluted air, unsafe drinking water and pesticide exposure. This work helps Californians understand how pollution is affecting their health and gives them tools to take action. These efforts have already influenced state policies and strengthened public protections where they’re needed most.

Helping Humanity

When pollution harms communities, kids get sick, older adults have trouble breathing and families are left without answers. London’s work brings science directly into local neighborhoods, helping them to express their voice and stay protected. Without continued federal funding these life-changing partnerships and protections could disappear. Supporting this research means standing with communities to fight for their health and wellbeing when it comes to clean air, safe water and a healthy future.

If the funding is taken away, the center will close... and that can have a direct impact on whether people have clean air, clean water or exposure to toxic substances.”
